Pennsylvania

Barns, rail yards and river towns: your Pennsylvania story

Pennsylvania was built by people who worked hard and stuck together. The way you have lived here, and what you believe today, are worth keeping in your own words.

Try it free for 7 days. Only you can see your record. Never public or searchable.

When you hear a mill whistle or a train horn, which part of your life comes back?

Pennsylvania gave the country big ideas about freedom, and you have your own ideas about freedom and fairness that deserve a hearing, written in your own words a question at a time. The steel towns, farm stands and back roads in autumn can come along too. Everything stays private while you live, then goes to the people you choose.

Only you can see your answers while you live.

Kept the way you would want

  • In your own voice, on the page

Your phrasing, your humour, your way of putting things, kept word for word.

  • Dated as you go

Every answer carries its date, so the way your thinking changes is part of the story.

  • Handed on with care

The people you choose receive it after at least 6 months, never sooner.

  • Text only, on purpose

No recordings and no images of you are ever made or kept.

Getting started is easy

  1. Read today's question

Each day brings one question, from childhood to the views you hold now.

  2. Answer as yourself

Write as you would talk. Your answer is saved with the date, exactly as you gave it.

  3. Decide who it is for

The people you name receive your record, never anyone else.

Pennsylvania

Your Pennsylvania, in your own words

Where the country began

The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were both debated and signed in Independence Hall in Philadelphia, and the cracked Liberty Bell remains an international symbol of liberty. Big ideas about freedom started here, but so did millions of quieter lives. What do freedom and fairness mean to you, in your own life? Your answer, written in your own words today, can mean a great deal to the people you choose.

Steel mills and rail yards

From 1875 to 1980, southwestern Pennsylvania was known as the Steel Making Capital of the World, and Scranton's old rail yards now hold a national park site about steam railroading. Plenty of Pennsylvanians grew up with a mill whistle, a shift schedule or a train horn in the background. If work shaped your town, it probably shaped you too. Tell the generations after you what that work was like and what it taught you.

Farm roads and old ways

Near Lancaster, the state's Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum tells the story of Pennsylvania German farm and village life from 1750 to 1940, the largest museum of its kind in the country. Rural Pennsylvania has its own slow beauty: a farm stand, a covered porch, a back road in autumn. Whether you live in the country or just love to visit, describe the places that feel like home to you. Those pictures in words will last.

The guide

It quotes you. It never pretends to be you.

With Archive Membership, the people you name can ask a guide about your life. It answers only with your own words, quoted and dated, and says plainly when your record holds no answer.

  • Your words, exactly

Quotes come straight from your record, never rewritten by AI.

  • Clearly an AI

The guide always says it is an AI, and speaks about you, not as you.

  • Honest when unsure

When nothing you wrote answers a question, it says so.
