If someone has designated you
Someone who uses ToldForward has chosen you for a role in what happens to their record after they are gone. Here is what that means, and what it does not.
The roles
Designee
You receive their whole record after their passing is confirmed and the waiting period of at least 6 months ends. If they chose Archive Membership, you may also ask the guide about their life. Nobody under 18 uses the guide.
Trustee
You let ToldForward know of their passing, with official documentation that we review. Being a trustee does not let you read the record.
What happens
- You receive an email invitation. Opening its link shows who designated you and for what. You can accept or decline.
- While they are living, nothing in their record is shared with anyone, you included. You can only see that you were named.
- After their passing, their trustee reports it with official documentation, which we review. Nothing happens automatically.
- A waiting period of at least 6 months follows. No one can shorten it, not even us. Only a court order or the law could require otherwise.
- When it ends, each person named receives their own copy of the whole record, in the person's own words and with their dates.
If you have an invitation, use the link in its email. It works only for you, and it will ask you to sign in or to create an account. An account for this costs nothing.
