Boise, Idaho

Your Boise, in your own words

Twenty-nine miles of riverside

The Boise River Greenbelt is a tree-lined pathway that follows the north and south sides of the river through the heart of the city for about 29 miles. People walk it, bike it, run it and sit beside it to watch the water go by. It may be where you taught someone to ride a bike, or where you went when you needed to think something through. A path like this slips into a person's life without anyone noticing. Telling those small moments now keeps them from fading.

A Basque block in the capital

Grove Street, one of the first plotted areas of the city, is home to the Basque Block. There you will find the Basque Museum and Cultural Center, which began in a house built in 1864 that later served for decades as a boardinghouse, along with an indoor fronton court and the Basque Center, a hall known for dinners and dances. Granite inserts in the sidewalk carry hundreds of family names. However you came to Boise, your story of arriving, or of staying, belongs here too.

A city that keeps changing

The Idaho State Capitol stands on West Jefferson Street, and around it Boise keeps changing, with new buildings, new businesses and new neighbors. If you have been here a long time, you have seen a great deal of it happen. If you just arrived, you are seeing the city with fresh eyes. Both points of view are worth having. One day the generations after you will want to know what Boise was like right now, from someone who actually lived it.

Something to come back to

Not a recording. Your own words, ready to read

Your record is text you wrote yourself. The people you choose can read all of it, and with Archive Membership ask a guide to find the parts they are looking for.

  • Find a moment

Ask about a place, a year or a person, and see what you said.

  • See how you changed

Dated answers show how your views grew over time.

  • Always honest

The guide labels every answer and never guesses.

Built with care

  • Your words, unchanged

What you write is stored as you wrote it, with the date, and never rewritten.

  • A gentle pause

Your record waits at least 6 months before anyone you named receives it.

  • Nothing to perform

No camera, no microphone. Type, or speak with your own device's dictation.

  • Yours to change

Edit an answer, remove one, or change who receives your record at any time.
