Idaho

Your Idaho, in your own words

Lava, sagebrush and open sky

At Craters of the Moon, the land looks like a vast ocean of old lava flows, dotted with cinder cones and sagebrush. Mount Borah, in the Lost River Range, is the highest point in the state, while the lowest sits on the Snake River at Lewiston. You might have grown up hunting, fishing or hiking in country like this, or arrived later and learned to love it. Either way, you carry your own picture of Idaho's wide places, along with your own reasons they matter to you.

Potatoes and the people who grow them

Idaho made the potato its official state vegetable in 2002. Behind that simple symbol are fields, packing sheds, irrigation ditches and long days at harvest. Perhaps you worked a harvest yourself, drove a truck in the fall, or just grew up with potatoes on every holiday table. That everyday work and food shaped the state as much as any law or landmark. Your account of it, told plainly in your own words, is a piece of Idaho history that no one else is able to write.

The Gem State, then and now

Idaho became the 43rd state on July 3, 1890, and it still goes by the Gem State. Towns have grown and shifted since then, and plenty of people have watched their own corner of Idaho change within a single lifetime. What did your town look like when you were young, or when you first arrived? What do you make of it now? Your honest answers, given today, will one day help the people you choose understand both this place and the person who knows it so well.
