Arizona

Under big desert skies, your Arizona story is still being written.

Arizona holds canyon country in the north and the Sonoran Desert in the south, and the people who live there learn to read the sky. How you have made a life in this landscape is worth putting into words.

Try it free for 7 days. Only you can see your record. Never public or searchable.

Where were you when the first monsoon storm finally broke after a long dry spell?

A photo of the Grand Canyon never quite captures what you felt at the rim, but your words can. ToldForward asks one question each day, and you can type your answer or dictate it on your device when typing feels like too much. Little by little, your Arizona takes shape, held privately until the people you name receive it.

Only you can see your answers while you live.

How it works

A few minutes at a time, whenever it suits you.

  1. One question a day

A friendly question about your life, your views or the people in it. Skip any you like.

  2. Your words grow with you

Come back to an answer, add to it, or change it. Each one keeps its date.

  3. You choose who receives it

Name the family and/or friends who will one day receive your whole record.

Arizona

Your Arizona, in your own words

The canyon and the river

Grand Canyon National Park covers more than 1.2 million acres, and the Colorado River has been cutting down through the Colorado Plateau there for five to six million years. Some people see it once. Others keep going back, to show a friend, to hike a little farther, to watch the light change on the rock. When did you first stand at the rim? Who was beside you? Describe what you felt, because a photo never quite captures it, and your words can.

Monsoon season

Every summer the monsoon arrives, bringing thunderstorms, lightning and the chance of flash floods, and the season runs through September 30. After a long dry spell, that first storm can feel like a party. What do you remember about storm season? A flooded wash, the lights flickering out, a porch where you sat and watched the lightning? Details like these make your Arizona unmistakably yours, and they are a joy to read years later.

Saguaro country

On both sides of Tucson, Saguaro National Park protects the nation's largest cacti, and saguaros grow in only a small part of the United States. If you have lived among them, you know each one seems to have its own shape and personality. People are the same way. What shaped you here? Who helped you put down roots in the desert, and what do you hope the generations after you will understand about it?

Something to come back to

Not a recording. Your own words, ready to read

Your record is text you wrote yourself. The people you choose can read all of it, and with Archive Membership ask a guide to find the parts they are looking for.

  • Find a moment

Ask about a place, a year or a person, and see what you said.

  • See how you changed

Dated answers show how your views grew over time.

  • Always honest

The guide labels every answer and never guesses.

Built with care

  • Your words, unchanged

What you write is stored as you wrote it, with the date, and never rewritten.

  • A gentle pause

Your record waits at least 6 months before anyone you named receives it.

  • Nothing to perform

No camera, no microphone. Type, or speak with your own device's dictation.

  • Yours to change

Edit an answer, remove one, or change who receives your record at any time.

Begin with today's question.

ToldForward asks one friendly question a day, and you answer in your own words, typed or dictated. Your answers stay private while you live, and you name the people who will one day receive them.
