Washington

Under the mountain, your Washington story is waiting

Washington holds rain forest, wild coastline and a glacier-covered volcano on the horizon. Your life here is worth telling in your own words.

Try it free for 7 days. Only you can see your record. Never public or searchable.

What do you like to do on the first sunny day after a long gray stretch?

Begin on any quiet day you like. ToldForward asks one friendly question a day about your life and views, and you answer in your own words. Your Washington record is kept private while you live, and one day it reaches the people you choose, so they can know your thinking as it was.

Only you can see your answers while you live.

Getting started is easy

Start with a 7-day free trial and see how it feels.

  1. Read today's question

Each day brings one question, from childhood to the views you hold now.

  2. Answer as yourself

Write as you would talk. Your answer is saved with the date, exactly as you gave it.

  3. Decide who it is for

The people you name receive your record, never anyone else.

Washington

Your Washington, in your own words

The mountain

Mount Rainier rises 14,410 feet above sea level. It is an active volcano and the most glaciated peak in the contiguous United States, and subalpine wildflower meadows ring its icy slopes. Do you remember the first time you saw it clearly? Where were you, and who was with you? Tell about the day trips, the hikes and the views that stopped you in your tracks. Those moments are part of your story here.

Rain forest and wild coast

Olympic National Park holds old-growth temperate rain forests, glacier-capped mountains and more than 70 miles of wild coastline. Maybe you have walked among the giant trees and ferns, or stood on a beach in the mist with a thermos of coffee. What did you notice there that you still think about? Write it down in your own way. The people you choose will treasure seeing these places through your eyes.

Your work, your weather

Some people here work on the water, some in orchards, some in offices and some in places that are hard to explain at a dinner party. What did your working life look like, and what did it teach you? How do you get through the gray months, and what do you do when the sun finally comes out? Your honest answers, in your own words, will help the generations after you understand who you were.

Something to come back to

Not a recording. Your own words, ready to read

Your record is text you wrote yourself. The people you choose can read all of it, and with Archive Membership ask a guide to find the parts they are looking for.

  • Find a moment

Ask about a place, a year or a person, and see what you said.

  • See how you changed

Dated answers show how your views grew over time.

  • Always honest

The guide labels every answer and never guesses.

Built with care

  • Your words, unchanged

What you write is stored as you wrote it, with the date, and never rewritten.

  • A gentle pause

Your record waits at least 6 months before anyone you named receives it.

  • Nothing to perform

No camera, no microphone. Type, or speak with your own device's dictation.

  • Yours to change

Edit an answer, remove one, or change who receives your record at any time.
