Utah

Five national parks, one salty lake, and your Utah life

Utah's landscapes draw visitors from everywhere, but the people who live here know them best. Your view of this place, and your life in it, deserves your own words.

Try it free for 7 days. Only you can see your record. Never public or searchable.

Which Utah view would you take someone to see first, and what would you tell them about it?

Your view of Utah is shaped by this moment in your life, and ToldForward helps you capture it. One friendly question arrives each day, and you answer in your own words. Your answers stay private while you live. One day they go to the people you choose, so they can know how you saw things.

Only you can see your answers while you live.

What you can count on

  • Only your own words

Nothing is written for you. Every word in your record is yours, as you gave it.

  • Text, never your voice or face

There is no recording and no likeness, so no one can make you seem to say anything.

  • Time before anyone reads

No one receives your record until at least 6 months have passed after you are gone.

  • Your terms, kept

You decide who receives it, and you can change your mind whenever you like.

How it works

A few minutes at a time, whenever it suits you.

  1. One question a day

A friendly question about your life, your views or the people in it. Skip any you like.

  2. Your words grow with you

Come back to an answer, add to it, or change it. Each one keeps its date.

  3. You choose who receives it

Name the family and/or friends who will one day receive your whole record.

Utah

Your Utah, in your own words

Arches, canyons and reefs

Utah is home to five national parks: Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef and Zion. Some people know every trail, and others have only glimpsed them on the way to somewhere else. Which ones have you visited, and who went with you? Maybe it was a school trip, a reunion or a weekend you planned for months. Tell about the drive, the light on the rock and what everyone talked about on the way home.

The lake at the edge of the valley

Great Salt Lake is a shallow, salty remnant of ancient Lake Bonneville. Brine shrimp live in its water, and millions of migratory birds use the lake and its wetlands. You might have floated in it as a child, watched the birds or simply noticed it shining out the window on a drive. What does the lake mean to you? The places we pass every day often hold more of our lives than we realize. Tell about yours.

Where the rails met

The first transcontinental railroad across the United States was completed in Utah, at what is now Golden Spike National Historical Park. Your own life has turning points too: a move, a new job, a hard choice made well, a friendship that changed your direction. Which moments mattered most to you? Write about them while the details are clear. The people you choose will be glad to understand how you made your decisions.

A guide that only ever uses your words

Someone you named asks what you thought about your first job, and the guide finds what you wrote, word for word. It is built to quote, not to invent.

  • First person, only in quotes

Your words appear exactly as you wrote them, with their date.

  • Third person, always

Everything else the guide says is about you, never in your name.

  • Nothing made up

If you never spoke to a subject, the answer is Unknown.

How we look after your information
  • Your record is private while you live: nothing in it is public or searchable.
  • You choose the people who will one day receive it, and you can change them at any time.
  • If you wish, a copy can one day go to a library or archive through the Historical Deposit.

From red rock to your own words

Each day brings one friendly question about your life and views. Answer in your own words, and you decide who will one day receive them.
