Charleston has been telling stories for more than three centuries. Yours belongs among them, told the way only you can tell it.

Try it free for 7 days. Only you can see your record. Never public or searchable.

Have you watched a sweetgrass basket being woven, and what skill were you taught just by watching someone?

Some knowledge in Charleston is passed hand to hand, and your words may be the only place certain things ever get written down, from a recipe or a song to your honest reflections on the city's history. Each day brings one question, and your answers are saved privately. For those you choose, Archive Membership offers a guide that finds the very passage they are looking for.

Only you can see your answers while you live.

Charleston, South Carolina

Your Charleston, in your own words

Where Charleston began

In 1670, a group of English settlers landed on a marshy point by the Ashley River and started the first permanent European settlement in what became South Carolina. Today that spot is Charles Towne Landing State Park. A place with that much history can make your own life feel small, but it is not. What was Charleston like when you first came to know it? Your view of it, today, is part of its story too.

A harbor full of history

Fort Sumter sits on an island at the entrance to Charleston Harbor, and the Civil War opened there in April 1861. People here live alongside hard history every day, and many have thoughtful views about how the city has changed. What do you hope people understand about this place? Your honest reflections, in your own words, can help the people after you see the city clearly, with all its beauty and all its lessons.

Baskets woven by hand

For more than 300 years, sweetgrass baskets have been woven by hand around Mount Pleasant, and you still see them along the roads of Charleston County. Some skills are learned only by watching someone you love. Is there something you were taught that way: a recipe, a song, a way of fixing things? Describe it carefully, step by step, and say who showed you. That knowledge is precious to whoever receives it, and your words may be the only place it is written down.

How your record comes together

Gently, in your own time.

  1. A question to start

Each one is written to bring back a real moment, not to test you.

  2. Your answer, dated

Everything you write is kept as you wrote it, with the day you wrote it.

  3. Your people, chosen

You name who receives it and when it can be read, within our waiting period.

Why people trust it

The people you name receive it after a waiting period of at least 6 months.

How your words are found

Your answers, there when they are needed

  • The whole record

Everyone you name receives the same complete record.

  • Exact quotes

The guide shows your words as you wrote them, dated.

  • Plainly AI

It never claims to be you, and it tells people so.
