Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Your Oklahoma City, in your own words

Noon, April 22, 1889

When the Land Run opened at noon on April 22, 1889, an estimated four to six thousand settlers came to Oklahoma Station that same day, and a city began almost overnight. Every Oklahoma City story since has been a kind of beginning. What was yours? Maybe you were born here, moved here for work or came for someone you love. Tell the people you choose how you arrived and what this place felt like at first.

Oil under the Capitol

The Oklahoma State Capitol sits above an oil pool, and in 1941 a well was drilled right on its south plaza. Wheat, cotton and cattle drove the early markets, and around 1909 two meatpacking plants opened near the stockyards. Work shapes a life. What did you or the people around you do for a living, and what did you learn from it? Those are stories nobody else can tell for you, and they deserve your own plain words.

Ballgames, boots and nights out

Bricktown has a ballpark, a movie theater and plenty of restaurants, and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum keeps the city's western spirit close. Your own good times might look completely different, and that is the point. Where did you go to celebrate? Who did you take with you? A record of your favorite places and people shows the generations after you what joy looked like in your life.
