A question for you
On a shore day, what do you always do, from the boardwalk to the drive home with sand in the car?
New Jersey taught the world something about invention: try, fail, try again, though keeping your stories needs far less effort. Just answer today's question, by typing or by dictation, and come back tomorrow. The problems you solved and the advice you would give someone facing something hard will add up, held privately until the people you choose receive them.
Only you can see your answers while you live.
New Jersey
Your New Jersey, in your own words
Down the shore
New Jersey's oceanfront runs about 126 miles from Sandy Hook to Cape May, and the world's first boardwalk was built at Atlantic City in 1870. For lots of people, a summer day at the shore means sand in the car, a slice of pizza and a long walk on the boards. What do you remember about your shore days? Who went with you, and what did you always do? Tell it like you are back there.
Farms, berries and the Pinelands
The Garden State nickname is credited to a speech given in 1876, and New Jersey still has thousands of farms, with blueberries and cranberries among its crops. In the south, the Pinelands National Reserve covers more than a million acres of farms, forests and wetlands. Maybe you picked berries in summer or stopped at a roadside stand for tomatoes. Tell the people you choose about the food and the places that tasted like home to you.
A state of inventors
Thomas Edison made the first incandescent lamp at Menlo Park in 1879, and his later home and laboratory in West Orange are now a national historical park. Inventing is mostly about trying, failing and trying again. What problems have you solved in your own life? What did you build, fix or figure out that you are proud of? Share those stories, and the advice you would give someone who is facing something hard right now.
