Kansas

Wheat, wind and wide skies: your Kansas, in your own words

Kansas is a state of wheat fields, prairie hills and skies big enough to watch the weather come from miles away. The stories you carry from here, and your views today, belong in your own words.

Try it free for 7 days. Only you can see your record. Never public or searchable.

Did you ever carry a meal out to the field at harvest, and who was waiting for it?

Kansans can watch the weather come from miles away, and there is something to be said for seeing what is coming and getting ready. Starting your own record now is a bit like that. A friendly question each day, answered by typing or dictating, gives the generations after you a clear sense of where they come from, told by someone who lived it.

Only you can see your answers while you live.

Your Kansas, in your own words

The tallgrass in the Flint Hills

Tallgrass prairie once covered about 170 million acres of North America, and most of what remains intact is in the Kansas Flint Hills. At Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve you can hike through that grass and see a ranch house and barn from the early 1880s. If you have ever watched the hills turn green in spring or seen wildflowers along a gravel road, you know a Kansas many people never see. Describe it in your own words, so the people you love can picture it too.

Wheat State, Sunflower State

Kansas pulled ahead of other states in winter wheat production back in 1876, and before long it was called the Wheat State. It is also the Sunflower State, with the wild native sunflower as its official flower since 1903. Harvest has its own calendar for the people who live by it: long days, dust in the air, meals carried out to the field. Whether you drove a combine or just waited for someone to come home from one, those seasons are worth telling about.

Home on the Range

Kansas became the 34th state on January 29, 1861. Its state song is "Home on the Range," its state animal is the American bison, and its state bird is the western meadowlark. Symbols like these hint at how people here see themselves, and at their fondness for open country. How would you describe the people of Kansas? What do you believe that you learned from living here? Your answers, in your own words, will one day help the generations after you know where they come from.

The guide, in brief

Answers in your words, with care

The guide is an AI that helps the people you name find what you said. It shows your words as exact, dated quotes and never speaks for you.

  • Quotes, not paraphrase

Your exact sentences, inserted from your record.

  • Disclosed as AI

Every conversation reminds people it is an AI, not you.

  • When there is no answer

It says Unknown rather than invent one.

Three easy steps

No writing experience needed, and no deadline.

  1. Answer in your own words

A few sentences is plenty. Type them, or speak them with your device's dictation.

  2. Write about anything else

Beyond the daily question, add any story, view or advice you want to keep.

  3. Name your people

Choose who will receive your record one day. Change your mind whenever you like.

Our promises to you

  • Never public

Your record cannot be searched or seen by anyone else while you are living.

  • Never invented

The guide quotes you exactly and never makes up an opinion in your name.

  • Never a likeness

We keep text only, so there is nothing anyone could use to recreate your voice or face.

  • Always your choice

Who receives your record, and whether a guide is offered, is decided by you.

Start whenever you are ready

ToldForward asks one friendly question each day about your life and your views, and you answer in your own words, typed or spoken with your device's dictation. Your record stays private while you live, and you choose who will one day receive it.
